Irvine, Calif. - Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc.'s VHS series of LMOS logic is now available in the industry's smallest and thinnest package for single-gate CMOS logic. The company has launched logic parts in the superminiature five-pin "fSV" package, which measures 1 mm square and 0.48 mm in height.
The fSV devices reduce mounting area by 76 percent over USV (SOT-353) packages, which until now were among the smallest logic packages available, at 2 x 2.1 x 0.9 mm, the company said.
The packaging is initially available for seven basic logic gates in Toshiba's VHS (TC7SHXX) series, including a two-input NAND gate, two-input NOR gate, inverter, two-input AND gate, Schmitt inverter, two-input OR gate and two-input EX-OR gate. The series features a wide voltage range of 2 to 5.5 V, high speed, low power consumption, input power down protection and low switching noise, suiting it for use in portable electronics.
The fSV packages, with flat leads in the device's 1 x 1-mm outline, are suitable for high-speed surface-mount application equipment.
Toshiba's VHS LMOS logic series in the ultracompact package is available now, priced at 25 cents for samples.
