Malvern, Pa. - Vishay Intertechnology Inc. says its two new series of thin-film, wire-bondable resistor chips provide one of the industry's best combinations of power-handling capacity and size for power supplies and high-power circuits in amplifiers.
The PWA chip resistors, with a 0.5-watt rating, and the PWB chip resistors, with a 1-W rating, come in packages of 0.03 x 0.045 inch and 0.07 x 0.07 inch. The PWA resistance ranges from 0.3 ohm to 1 Mohm, while the PWB resistors are available in a resistance range of 0.3 ohms to 20 kohms. The standard operating temperature range for both lines is -55 degrees C to 125 degrees C.
Two large bonding pads contribute to flexibility in compact designs while providing space for Kelvin connections in low-value precision applications. An oxidized silicon substrate delivers good power dissipation, Vishay said. Wire-bondable aluminum or gold pads are available; the company recommends a gold backing option for eutectic die attachment to allow for some rise in the substrate temperature.
The PWA chip resistors are priced at 63 cents each and the PWB chip resistors at $1.61 each, in quantities of 5,000. Samples are available now.
