Plainview, N.Y. - Aeroflex Inc. is coming out this month with a line of modular wireless test products based on PXI. The Aeroflex 3000 series includes an RF synthesizer, a digital RF signal generator, an RF digitizer and an RF combiner.
The 3010 RF synthesizer is a single-slot, 3U-high module that spans the 1.5-to 3-GHz range. This instrument can be used as a standalone frequency synthesizer or as the core synthesizer for the company's digital RF signal generator or RF digitizer modules. The synthesizer provides 1-Hz resolution, a typical phase noise of -120 dBc/Hz and typical frequency setting times of 200 microseconds.
The 3010 has a VXIpnp driver and a soft front panel. It also comes in a high-stability version, called the 3011, that includes an oven-controlled crystal oscillator frequency reference.
The 3020 is a two-slot 3U digital RF signal generator module that can be used for complex modulated signals for wireless R&D and manufacturing testing. The generator spans the 250-MHz to 2.5-GHz band, delivers a -140- to 0-dBm RF output, and sports a 0.1-dB-level resolution and 0.5-dB-level accuracy. The instrument also has a modulation linearity of better than -55 dBc in wideband CDMA testing-20 dB better than levels mobiles need to attain-said Bill Burrows, the director of product marketing.
Also, the RF signal generator houses a 32-Msample/second dual-channel automatic waveform generator. It can store a single long waveform or a collection of smaller waveforms up to the limit of the sample memory.
The 3020 is being supported with optional software applications that deliver common waveforms for GSM, Edge, UMTS, IS-136, IS-95 and cdma2000 applications. Common waveforms are also available for frequency-shift keying, phase-shift keying and quadrature amplitude modulation.
When the 3030 is used with the 3010 RF synthesizer module, it can downconvert and digitize signals in the 330-MHz to 3-GHz range. It outputs a set of amplitude and phase-controlled digital IF or I/Q data samples with an amplitude accuracy of better than 0.5 dB.
The 3060 single-slot, 3U RF combiner rounds out Aeroflex's PXI wireless test line. This four-port combiner covers the 300-MHz to 2.5-GHz band and is used with the 3020 signal generator and 3030 digitizer. The combiner delivers 20-dB or better loss, less than 35-dB port-to-port isolation and less than 15-dB insertion loss. Switched paths allow system calibration.
Designers can order the 3000 series of PXI instruments now, but deliveries won't start until January. The 3010 synthesizer is priced at $4,000, the 3020 signal generator at $7,000, the 3030 digitizer at $11,000 and the 3060 at $2,500. The GSM, Edge and UMTS measurement suites are both offered at $3,500.
