Sunnyvale, Calif. - Maxim Integrated Products' MAX1562, MAX1562H and MAX-1563 current-limited switches power up to eight Universal Serial Bus ports. These 3- and 4-amp devices offer such features as autoreset and fault blanking for USB applications in notebook and desktop computers.
The three devices have several safety features to protect the USB ports. Built-in thermal protection turns off the switches when the die temperature exceeds 160 degrees C. The MAX1562 has an active-low enable, and the MAX1562H has an active-high enable input. The MAX1563 has a selectable active-high or active-low logic-controlled enable and its current limit is programmed from 1 A to 4 A using a resistor.
Accurate current limiting protects the input supply from both overload and short-circuit conditions. An open-drain fault signal notifies the microprocessor when a thermal overload, current limit, undervoltage lockout or short-circuit fault occurs.
The MAX1562 and MAX1562HESA are available in eight-pin SO packages. The MAX1563ETC is packaged in a smaller 12-pin (4 x 4-mm) QFN. Prices start at $1.20 in quantities of 1,000.
