Upper Saddle River, NJ " VME board supplier, Pentek, Inc. is once again targeting real-time digital signal processing applications with two types of high-performance products: One is an RTS development platform; the other is an RTS turnkey system.
RTS Development Platforms are developer-ready systems targeted for data acquisition, digital up- and down-conversion, processing, analyzing, recording and synthesizing a wide range of signals.
RTS Turnkey Systems are complete operator-ready systems, tailored for specific, high-end applications. Pentek has entered into a strategic alliance with DSPCon, Inc., a systems integrator, known for end-to-end project support from system definition, to algorithm development, to hardware system delivery. As part of this arrangement, DSPCon will directly work with the customer to develop a statement-of-work that results in a fully integrated and tested commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solution with custom application code and a complete graphical user interface (GUI).
Pentek's RTS Development Platforms and Turnkey Systems represents an expansion of the company's current scalable, solutions. These include VME, PMC, VIM and VXI boards for data acquisition, software radio. The digital signal processing capability is based on Texas Instrument's C6000 DSPs, Motorola's G4 PowerPC and Xilinx FPGAs. Pentek's I/O includes A/D's, D/A's, Digital Receivers and upconverters and more. Pentek equips products with interfaces like RACE++ and FPDP-II and offers strong DSP software support.
DSPCon, which has enjoyed a ten-year partnership with Pentek, includes an engineering staff with US DoD clearances. DSPCon says it is (in Pentek's release) "in a perfect position to offer cost-effective enhancements to the RTS Development Platform." Translate that as: we may know what the DoD wants to do with this; trust us to configure the applications properly.
RTS Development Platforms
Equipping application developers with a pre-tested and configured platform, RTS systems can eliminate the time and risk associated with new system development. RTS Development Platforms can include processing boards, I/O modules, a card cage, required cabling, host computer, storage devices, code development tools, board support libraries and drivers, full documentation and sample applications. Each system is highly-scalable to allow initial development to begin with a minimum configuration, with the option to easily expand as needed.
First in the series is the System RTS 2501, a Real-Time Radar Signal Processor and Recorder Development Platform. The system consists of a 100 MHz, 14-bit analog front end, scalable from 2 to 80 channels. Digitized data is then passed to optional GC1012B wideband digital down-converters and Virtex-II FPGAs where additional processing can be performed. The data stream is then presented to a 600 MHz MPC7455 G4 PowerPC where signals can be further processed and analyzed. The system is equipped with a Fibre Channel interface for direct connection to RAIDs or JBODs for signal storage. The system is delivered in a 6U VMEbus card cage pre-configured and tested, with all required cabling and software.
Pentek intends to offer three additional application-specific versions of the RTS Development Platform:
- Wireless development system for satellite or wireless communications
- Multichannel signal intelligence receiver
- Sonar receiver with 128 channel and quad PowerPCs
RTS Turnkey Systems<.B><.P>
Each RTS Turnkey System is defined by a statement-of-work developed with DSPCon to ensure fully-integrated and tested COTS-based solutions. Custom code for the signal processing and storage tasks and a complete GUI are included. RTS Turnkey Systems are ideal for software radio, acoustic testing, high-speed multi-channel data acquisition and recording and signal intelligence applications.
