Santa Ana, Calif. - ITT Industries, Cannon has unveiled a new range of 75-ohm surface mountable coaxial connectors for switching and transmission equipment in telecommunications applications. Designed to increase connector density, the CoSMID (Coax Surface Mount Interconnect Device) connectors incorporate a unique plastic housing that can be selectively plated and molded into a variety of configurations.
Two, three or four coaxial connector ports can be integrated into a single surface mountable module, which increases the surface area available for solder pads, ensuring reliable electrical and mechanical connections, said the company.
With the modular design, designers can incorporate more coax ports on the card edge than previously available. Because the devices are surface mountable both sides of the PC-board card edge can be used. For higher densities, the four port modules can be configured and stacked in a 2 x 2 formation, which doubles the line density.
The CoSMID connectors feature the 1.0/2.3 coaxial interface to CECC 22230 with a typical reflection factor of <0.1 up to 500 MHz. The devices can be processed through reflow soldering processes at temperatures up to 473 degrees F (245 degrees C).
The CoSMID connectors, ompatible with pick-and-place assembly, are available in tape-and-reel packages. Pricing for the CoSMID connector is $4.00 to $7.00 per two-port version, $5.00 to $8.00 per three-port version, and $8.00 to $12.00 per four-port version, depending on quantity. Delivery is six to eight weeks.
