Malvern, Pa. - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. said its two new devices in the 592D family of solid tantalum chip capacitors provide the highest available capacitance values for low-profile tantalum capacitors. Part of the Vishay Sprague Tantamount product line, these new capacitors are designed for low-profile applications such as wireless GPRS PCMCIA modem cards and cell phones that require very high capacitance.
The new 592D capacitors are available in "X"and "Y" cases with dimensions of 0.570 in. by 0.290 in. (14.5 mm by 7.37 mm) and height profiles of 0.079 in. (2.0 mm) and 0.098 in. (2.5 mm), respectively. They are case-code compatible with EIA 535BAAC and CECC 30801 molded chips.
The 592D228X_6R3X2 in the X case features a capacitance of 2200 microfarads and a maximum current leakage of 139 microamps. In the Y case size, the 592D338X_6R3Y2 offers a capacitance value of 3300 microfarads and maximum current leakage of 208 microamps Capacitance tolerances of +/-10% and +/-20% are standard.
At 6.3 WVdc, the conformal coated 592D capacitors feature two 100% tin terminations, and offer a maximum dissipation factor of 35%, very low ESR of 0.055 ohm, and ripple of 1.80 A during operation at 25 degrees C and 100 kHz. The standard operating temperature range is -25 degrees C to 85 degrees C.
In some applications, these high-capacitance devices may be used to replace several capacitors with lower ratings, allowing designers to conserve board real estate and decrease component count. In addition, the low ESR values help to reduce power consumption.
Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $2.45 for the X case and $3.30 for the Y case. Delivery is seven weeks for large orders. Samples and production quantities of the new 592D228X_6R3X2 and 592D338X_6R3Y2 capacitors are available in tape-and-reel packaging.
