New additions to Agilent's PCI Express test, validation, and management products promise to help EEs bring serial I/O technologies to market a lot faster.
At the recent Intel Developer Forum, Agilent Technologies (Palo Alto, Calif.) demonstrated PCI Express products calculated to reduce time-to-market for developers using high-speed serial bus products based on the latest PCI Express standard.
PCI Express uses point-to-point signaling and a packetized protocol to create a scalable and extensible architecture with up to 32 selectable lane widths. The high-bandwidth products from Agilent offer coverage for all layers of the protocol, providing functions for various PCI Express environments and applications.
More, Better, Faster
The firm's products are expected to increase test coverage, decrease validation time, and protect investments. Agilent's Model E2969A protocol test card, for example, permits you to conduct basic compliance tests.
Likewise, the Agilent E2941A mid-bus probe can increase the flexibility of the firm's E2960A protocol analyzer and exerciser. The analyzer is a hardware approach that supports duplex speeds of x8, x4 and x1 bandwidth.

The company's so-called "soft-touch" technology. It enables designers grappling with restricted circuit board space to debug chip-to-chip PCI Express links.
Remote Management Tools, Too
Agilent is also offering integrated remote management that allows administrators seamless remote control from virtually any location. This is expected to reduce both unplanned server downtime and total cost of ownership of PCI Express systems. For example, Agilent's embedded KVM 1.0 (keyboard, video and mouse) product is expected to minimize project complexity. It supports a choice of form-factors for motherboard integration.
On the instrumentation front, Agilent's new E2688A serial data analysis option for its popular 54850 Series Infiniium oscilloscopes, enables real-time eye mask testing for PCI Express standards with clock recovery.
Type E2681A jitter analysis software for real-time jitter measurements complements the serial data analysis option. Both serial data analysis and jitter analysis options can be used to debug high-speed serial data traffic.
In addition, Agilent is providing test tools for system validation, including testing of high-speed serial links, PCI-X 2.0, and DDR memory from FuturePlus Systems.
