Santa Clara, Calif. - Arques Technology's AQ9220 is a triple-output, dual-phase synchronous buck controller chip with two low-dropout regulators (LDOs) suited to 3D graphics cards and VRM supply applications. The buck controller, which can provide sufficient drive current for external N-channel MOSFETs providing up to 80 amps for microprocessor core power, features a 5-bit VID interface with adjustable step and offset voltage capability. Loss-less inductor current-sensing maximizes efficiency. True (180 degree) dual-phase output minimizes the size of input and output capacitors. Active current-sharing control between phases ensures less than ±10 percent error. One LDO is capable of driving an external N-channel MOSFET for VDDQ; the other can drive two external N-channel MOSFETs to achieve current sourcing and sinking required for the VTT termination voltage of DDR memory.
The AQ9220, packaged in either an MLP-40 or LQFP-44 package, is priced at $1.20 each in 1k quantities. Evaluation boards are available.
