TAL Technologies, Inc., otherwise known as TALtech (Philadelphia, pa.) will be demo'ing the latest version of its existing WinWedge 32 Pro utility software at the Pittcon 2004 show and conference in Chicago.
WinWedge 32 Pro collects RS-232 serialized data from any instrument or device, directly into Excel, Access, LIMS, and other Windows applications. As such, it's popular for collecting realtime data from meters, sensors, gauges, bar code scanners, meters, and other instruments.
WinWedge 32 Pro also includes utility programs for RS-232 and TCP/IP based data collection and communications. These applications solve many different data collection and communications needs.
Here's The Update
The new WinWedge 32 Pro will include upgraded TCP-Com software. TCP-Com was originally designed to expose an RS-232 serial port on a PC to a TCP/IP port so that RS-232 serial data could be sent and received across a TCP/IP network.
TCP-Com Version 2.0 is now upgraded with new features, including the ability to create so-called virtual COM ports that are actually TCP/IP port connections. This means that any software designed to communicate with RS-232 ports can now communicate over Ethernet or Internet TCP/IP ports. TCP-Com also now has an error recovery features that can automatically detect and repair broken TCP/IP connections.
The ability to create virtual COM ports lets TCP-Com be used for a number of advanced applications that were not possible before. For example, the softwarer can be used to turn a PC into a multi port serial device server (Terminal Server), or send or receive data over a TCP/IP port with any existing serial communications program.
A Giant Serial Cable
TCP-Com v2.0 can also let you open COM ports located on another computer in a network as if they were locally installed COM ports. The new software will also support using a network or the Internet as a giant "serial cable."
You can also use TCP-Com to feed data from one physical RS-232 port to multiple RS-232 serial communications programs. Finally, you can use TCP-Com to map a TCP/IP port to a different TCP/IP port.
These new capabilities in TCP-Com, when combined with WinWedge's RS-232 data collection capabilities, give you versayility options in RS-232-based and TCP-IP-based data collection and communication systems.
The software also operates without the need for any programming. Simple menu-driven set-ups in WinWedge and TCP-Com are all that's needed to operate it.
The software will start shipping on March 9th, 2004, the first day of Pittcon.
