Corpus Christi, Tex. Under development for about 12 months, TT electronics IRC Advanced Film Division is rolling out its new Chromaxx series of chromium silicon oxide resistors.
Available in both standard and custom values, the new thinfilm resistors offer resistance values up to 15 MΩ, making them suitable for high value voltage dividers, chips and networks used in high input impedance medical and instrumentation applications.
Compared with other resistor technologies such as tantalum nitride and nichrome devices, Chromaxx offers a much higher sheet resistance. With sheet resistivity of 1,000 ohms/square, the Chromaxx resistors can pack higher resistance values in the same size or smaller packages.
"This is particularly important for battery-operated implantable medical equipment such as pace makers. You want a very high value resistor so the current draw to the battery is very low, which will extend the life of the battery," said Jerry Seams, applications manager for TT electronics IRC Advanced Film Division.
Other key specs include tolerances to ±1%, and an absolute temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) up to ±50 ppm/°C with resistance values up to 15 MΩ in a 2512 package. The operating temperature range is -65°C to 150°C.
The Chromaxx resistors are available in a variety of packages including wire bondable chips, SOT, SIP and SON, as well as 2-resistor divider chips and EIA chip sizes including 0603, 0805, 1206, 1505, 2010 and 2510. Custom schematics and values are available.
Typical pricing for the Chromaxx series PFC dividers is $0.99 in quantities greater than 10,000. Delivery is from stock to 12 weeks.
