Server hardware maker Appro (Milpitas, Calif.) is preparing to demo its new HyperBlade Mid-Cluster, a product designed to fit in a standard 19-in. RETMA rack cabinet.
When it debuts for real, the scalable HyperBlade Mid-Cluster will address the needs of users wanting to continue with the standard 19-in. rack form-factor, but who may also have concerns about space limitations and space optimization in data centers.
Stacked In A Row
The Appro product will support up to fifty HyperBlade servers in a 42U-sized cabinet, in five sub-racks stacked in a row, housing ten servers in each sub-rack.
Each HyperBlade will be an independent server, with its own processors, memory, storage, network controllers, operating system, and applications.
Appro says its HyperBlade servers will also offer a variety of configuration options, including SAN, NAS-based storage, high-speed interconnect, Appro's BladeDome remote management software, and a choice of Linux or Windows operating systems.
The sub-rack will have support for ten HyperBlades in each sub-rack, with an integrated power strip for compute-blade direct connections and blade locking mechanisms.
The server will also pack dual AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) Opteron, dual Intel Xeon, dual Intel Itanium-2, or single Intel Pentium-4 microprocessors.
It will also support up to 16-Gbytes of ECC DDR memory, 500-Gbytes of local storage, and one PCI-X card slot.
A High Power-to-Density Ratio Server
Appro is also getting ready to showcase its new 1U-sized quad AMD Opteron-based Processor-Based Server. It's designed to deliver a high power-to-density ratio. In fact, the company claims the power-to-density ratio will be the best of any 1U server available.
Teaming up with AMD and Infinicon Systems, Appro will also demonstrate its HyperBlade Full-Cluster using Infinicon's InfiniBand architecture.
This product will be targeted at scalable clusters for small- to mid-sized environments. The company's demo will feature a 16-dual AMD Opteron node cluster interconnected with InfiniCon's InfinIO 3000 Switch Series supporting up to 10-Gbits/s speeds.
