San Jose, Calif. - Power Integrations has added three new devices in two package types to its DPA-Switch family of CMOS chips for DC/DC power conversion. Their DPA423, 424, and 425, which integrate a PWM controller, 220-volt high-frequency power MOSFET, and fault protection circuitry in SMD-8 and DIP-8 packages, are designed to dramatically simplify DC/DC power conversion designs in an expanded range of applications, including Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). There, they are suited to implementing the powered device (PD) design over the full PoE power range (0.44 to 12.95 watts) for VoIP phones, wireless access points, and network cameras.
Features include built-in soft-start, selectable 300 or 400 kHz switching frequency, cycle skipping at light load for high standby efficiency, and internal hysteretic thermal shutdown. Pricing for the new devices range from $1 each for the DPA423P (13-watt through-hole part), to $1.75 each for the 52-watt rated DPA425G in a surface-mount package. Production quantities are available 6 weeks ARO.
