Fujitsu has begun sales of the industry's first 2.3GB SCSI-interface MO (magneto-optical) drive that incorporates the Zone Constant Linear Velocity (ZCLV) disk format, targeting OEM users. The MCR3230SS outperforms Fujitsu's current MO drives by as much as 22%.
The MCR3230AP, an ATAPI-interface model, will also be available in late April. Both measure 101.6x150x25.4mmm and weigh 480g.
Ideally suited for backup applications for financial institutions, security camera systems and medical equipment, both models are priced at 60,000 yen ($541). The manufacturer aims to sell a total of 50,000 units in fiscal 2004.
