Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology Inc. says its new power inductors are the industry's first to offer 5% direct current resistance (DCR) tolerance for current-sensing applications. The passive component specialist has expanded the IHLP family of inductors with four new products that feature low height profiles of 3.0 mm and 3.5 mm, saturation currents up to 60 amps (A), and typical DCR values down to 1.4 MΩ.
Claiming the lowest DCR/μH for their respective package sizes, the new Vishay Dale IHLP-2525CZ-06, IHLP-2525CZ-07, IHLP-5050CE-06, and IHLP-5050CE-07 inductors offer space- and power-saving solutions for voltage regulator module (VRM) and dc-to-dc converter applications in end products including mobile devices, notebook computers, desktop computers, and servers. They can also be used in low-profile, high-current power supplies and point of load (POL) converters, distributed power systems, and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
Because these devices include a current-sensing function, they allow designers to replace multiple parts with a single inductor, which lowers component count and costs.
The IHLP-2525CZ-06 and IHLP-5050CE-06 offer 10% DCR tolerance, while the IHLP-2525CZ-07 and IHLP-5050CE-07 provide a 5% DCR tolerance. The inductance range for IHLP-2525CZ-06 and IHLP-2525CZ-07 is 0.10 to 10 μH. The IHLP-5050CE-06 and IHLP-5050CE-07 offer an inductance range from 0.60 to 10 μH.
The IHLP-2525CZ series devices offer compact dimensions of 0.255 inch x 0.270 inch (6.47 x 6.86 mm) with the lowest height profile of 3.0 mm that is available in this package footprint, according to the company. The IHLP-2525CZ-06 and IHLP-2525CZ-07 are specified for saturation currents ranging from 7.0 A to 60 A with typical DCR values from 1.4 to 97.7 MΩ.
Available in a 0.508 inch x 0.520-inch (12.9 x 13.2 mm) package with a 3.5-mm height profile, the IHLP-5050CE-06 and IHLP-5050CE-07 are specified for saturation currents from 14 A to 51 A and for a DCR range of 1.85 to 30.86 MΩ.
These new power inductors handle high transient current spikes without saturation and operate over a frequency range up to 5 MHz. Packaged in a 100% lead-free, shielded, composite construction that reduces buzz noise to ultra-low levels, the new devices are specified for an operating temperature range of -55°C to 125°C with high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, mechanical shock, and vibration.
Pricing for the power inductors start at $0.82 in quantities of 10,000 for U.S. delivery. Samples and production quantities are available now. Delivery for production quantities is six to 11 weeks.
