Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. said it has developed a new family of surface-mount (SM) LEDs that delivers exceptional brightness thanks to a specially designed leadframe profile that greatly improves device heat dissipation.
Offered in a PLCC-3 package with a low 270 k/W thermal resistance rating, the new Vishay Semiconductors TLMx320x series can be driven with higher currents to enable twice the brightness of comparable LEDs in the PLCC-2 package.
Available in six colors and designed with a non-diffused lens that simplifies backlighting displays and coupling to light pipes, the TLMx320x LEDs may be used in a variety of lighting and display applications, including dashboard lighting in cars, traffic signals and signs, advertising billboards, LCDs, and A/V systems.
The six color options include super red, red, orange, yellow, pure green, and yellow green, with typical luminous intensity ranging from 50 millicandelas (mcd) to 1250 mcd when the LEDs are driven with a forward current of 50 mA.
The TLMx320x LEDs are luminous intensity, color, and forward-voltage categorized per packing unit, with a low luminous intensity ratio per packing unit of 1.6 or lower to ensure a homogeneous light characteristic, said the company. Built using AllnGaP technology, all devices in the family feature a 60° angle of half intensity. The devices are rated for ESD class 2. They are suitable for all soldering methods according to CECC.
Supplied in 8-mm tape-and-reel, prices start at $15.00 per 100 pieces for U.S. delivery in quantities of 500,000. Samples are available now. Delivery is eight weeks for larger orders.
