Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (based in San Jose) is introducing eight digital bus switch products. Called "NanoSwitch that," the devices are targeted toward new-generation server, RAID storage cabinets, super VGA graphics card, and memory bank switching, as well as high-performance networking/telecom backplanes.
The company feels its PI3CH family of high-bandwidth (500MHz) bus switches will also serve communication buses like PCI-X, and emerging DDR-I / DDR-2 memory standards. Such switching may also enable I/O migration from parallel to serial differential signaling standards.
Key performance features in this product family include very flat On-Resistance (5 Ohms) across the full device bandwidth, and very low On/Off Capacitance (5-10pF) that enables the Switches to be used in applications to reduce bus loading. The low-voltage device " 2.5v/3.3v " still maintain a 5V I/O tolerance and beyond rail-to-rail capability makes the PI3CH Switches ideal for bridging legacy 5V I/O based platforms to next generation 2.5V/3V systems.
"Pericom's presence in the Digital Bus Switch market has provided us with an intimate perspective on the industry, and has enabled us to focus our technology on the required performance levels" explained Jeff DeAngelis, Director of Product Marketing. "We believe this product line extension helps rejuvenate the design engineer's toolbox by offering new performance-oriented alternatives."
