Instrumentation and industrial controls vendor Highland Technology, Inc. (San Francisco, Calif.) announces the release of its Model V385, an 8-channel VME bus strain-gauge signal conditioner plug-in.
The V385 adds individual remote-sensed excitation supplies to each channel, increasing its precision over the company's predecessor Model V380's single excitation supply. The company says new firmware in the latest V385 makes it more generally applicable to bridge-type transducer data acquisition. A firmware version with weighing-specific functions is also available.
The standard version of the V385 delivers raw sensor data, while an instrumentation version is also available. It packs advanced filtering and normalization functions. Both are single-width 6U-sized VME bus B-size VXI modules.
Highland tech also notes that its earlier Model V380 was designed specifically for weighing applications, but found its greatest use in applications such as airframe testing. As such, Highland created its newest Model V385 to support more generic strain-gauge and load-cell applications, with higher precision at faster data acquisition rates.
Key to the V385's increased precision is separate remotely-sensed excitation voltage for each channel. With that, you can measure up to eight different sensors with different interface cables---without the uncertainty of a single sense-point for the excitation supply.
Each differential input-channel features a 5-V or 10-V switchable excitation source, and a 24-bit A/D converter. Input impedance is a very high 60-Mohms. Maximum input signal level is 50-mV. The inputs also ensure a common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) of greater than 100-dB.
