Based on an Intel 845GV embedded chipset with integrated Intel Extreme Graphics and ADD support for digital display panels, board maker RadiSys Corp. (Hillsboro, Oregon) announces its Endura SH845GV long-life ATX board.
The latest in the company's Endura family of CPU platforms, the Model SH845GV supports both Intel Pentium-4 and Celeron microprocessors. The product is designed to address compute-intensive applications such as video surveillance, medical imaging, gaming, and industrial control systems. These typically use a larger number of PCI peripheral cards.
The SH845GV ATX provides a scalable platform. The company claims that lets you select the on-board microprocessor that's best suited to meet your price vs. performance requirements. For example, Intel's 2.4-GHz and 2.8-GHz Pentium-4 processors can be used for high performance embedded applications, with the 2-GHz Celeron being used as an entry-level and more cost-effective approach.
Radisys claims this flexibility, combined with a five-year lifetime, provides OEMs with an embedded platform designed for a lower total cost-of-ownership. "OEMs look for platforms that can deliver leading-edge technology, can be used in many applications, and don't cost a fortune to own over the life of the product," avows Fred Yentz, the company's VP.
"The SH845GV was designed to meet the needs of OEMs looking for long-life solutions that can be used in a variety of embedded applications," adds Yentz. "This pairing of components and architecture also minimizes the component churn that's become common in the standard desktop ATX boards."
Yentz adds that RadiSys chose the components and architecture on this product to ensure that OEMs get a flexible and cost-effective platform that can be leveraged in more than one implementation.
Plenty Of Slots
Expanding the number of PCI slots also lets you pack more video I/O cards in a video surveillance application, for example, or to attach all the interface cards required for coin-op gaming machines. The product's AGP digital display slot enables use of an ADD card to interface to digital display panels typically used in medical and gaming applications.
The SH845GV is an industry-standard 12-in. x 9.6-in. ATX form-factor board. It supports the Pentium-4 and Celeron processors at bus speeds of 400-MHz or 533-MHz. It also has support for up to two Gigabytes of DDR SDRAM. In addition to the integrated Intel Extreme Graphics, other features include a 10/100 Ethernet port and an AC97-compliant digital audio port.
Expansion is provided by six 32-bit/33-MHz PCI slots, and a CompactFlash socket for on-board storage. Integrated I/O includes six Universal Serial Bus v2.0 ports, two serial ports, one parallel port, and PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse.
Pricing and Availability
Yentz says the SH845GV is currently sampling. It's priced at about $270, and OEM discounts are available. For questions or to receive more information contact RadiSys Corp., 5445 NE Dawson Creek Dr., Hillsboro, Oregon 97124. Phone : (503) 615-1100, or (800) 950-0044. Fax: (503) 615-1115.
