Pentium EBX Computer Synchronizes Data Acquisition with GPS
Montrose, CA---Based on a flexible Pentium core, the SBC2596 from Micro/sys provides a powerful, feature-rich controller in the popular 8-in. x 5.75-in. EBX mechanical standard. Up to 32 channels of 16-bit A/D and four channels of 14-bit D/A provide a highly accurate temperature-compensated data acquisition system. In addition, the on-board GPS provides timing that can synchronize the data acquisition of geographically distant systems to within 190ns, while also providing location and altitude. This makes the SBC2596 highly suitable for power grid monitoring, epicenter detection, and many other applications.
The SBC2596 also has an isolated CAN Bus interface. Robust industrial control networks are easily implemented. With up to 128MB of RAM, a CompactFlash socket, and full AT-compatibility, high performance control systems can be developed as single board solutions. The SBC2596 can boot DOS, Linux, Windows CE, NT Embedded, VxWorks, and other PC-compatible operating systems.
The SBC2596 is implemented with the Intel Embedded Low-Power Pentium processors, which offers speeds of 166MHz or 266MHz, on-chip cache, 64-bit DRAM access, and hardware floating point. The Intel CPU and chipset include AT-compatible PCI, USB, EIDE, ISA, SDRAM, interrupt, timer, and DMA controllers. The SBC2596 also offers four serial ports, LPT1, keyboard, mouse, floppy, and a watchdog timer. If needed, I/O expansion can be added to the SBC2596 through both PC/104 and PC/104-Plus cards.
The CompactFlash available on the SBC2596 can be used as solid-state storage for operating systems and large applications. Micro/sys installs a ready-to-run firmware system on the SBC2596 at no cost. This firmware includes a complete industrial BIOS, board setup screens, and application download utilities, and can create a DOS-like execution environment immediately upon powerup. Borland or Microsoft C/C++ 16-bit .EXE files can be downloaded to the board upon receipt. Alternatively, the computer may be configured to boot 32-bit operating systems upon powerup. A free development kit is provided that includes cables, sample software, and full documentation.
The basic SBC2596 starts at $925 in single quantity. Optional features are quite cost effective, as they do not require additional boards. Significant OEM discounts are available.
