RF Engines Ltd. (RFEL), a UK-based signal processing design house, and high-speed data converter supplier Acqiris (Geneva, Switzerland), are announcing details of a new high-speed digitizer design and processing core.
For its part, RFEL will supply a system-on-a-chip (SoC) for one of Acqiris's new high-speed digitizers, the Model AC240, a 2-Gsample/s cPCI (CompactPCI) card. Acqiris's card carries a large on-board Xilinx Virtex II PRO70 FPGA that will hold RFEL's realtime processing engine.
This should be a marriage made in electronics heaven, as Acqiris is well-known for its high-speed data-acq and analysis products for test-and-measurement and ATE. Products include single-channel and multi-channel digitizers with Gsample/s performance for PCI, CompactPCI, and PXI bus platforms.
In this first application, a pulse frequency measurement core will be provided by RFEL. The processing power on the card will support applications that require large FFT (fast Fourier transform) algorithms of up to 32-kpoints, running in realtime at the full input-rate provided by the card's front-end.
In the past, RFEL has provided signal processing cores, SoC designs, and FPGA-based boards for applications in defense, communications, and instrumentation, so it's well suited to hold up its end of this accord with Aqiris. RFEL's past accomplishments included complex front-end, realtime, and wide-band and narrow-band channelization wares. RFEL provides a range of standard cores, as well as system design services for special applications.
