Board maker WinSystems (Arlington,Texas) now has a PC/104-Plus module called PPM-CardBus that supports both CardBus and PCMCIA cards. It's designed for embedded applications requiring additional functions such as 802.11 (a/b/g) wireless networking, Bluetooth, IEEE-1394 FireWire, Universal Serial Bus 2.0, SCSI, high-speed Ethernet, and other high-performance functions for mobile computing. These add-in cards are available from many sources.
The PPM-CardBus product lets a CardBus module be plugged into its 68-pin mating connector. This connector has long card guides on each side to ensure secure mounting. Cards fit in between the PC/104 and PC/104-Plus connector for easy insertion and removal, and they're keyed to prevent them from being installed upside down.
The PPM-CardBus is also a +5-V-only board. It contains its own 3.3-V regulator that's capable of supplying up to 1-A to the card socket. The system also automatically detects and switches the correct voltage to the socket, and over-current sensing is provided for each output voltage separately.
