Menlo Park, Calif. CoEv Magnetics, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, has released its new DZM series of lead-free power inductors that offer higher power handling capability for switching power supplies and portable electronics. The company says the low profile and improved DC bias performance allow design engineers to increase power handling and performance of their products without sacrificing board space.
The company says the design of the DZM series minimizes contact resistance and reduces failure modes often found with plating and solder terminated wires and leads. The unique multi-gap technology used to manufacture the device also reduces fringing flux and stray field emissions. The core material is specially formulated to avoid thermal aging, minimize core loss, and provide a mean time between failure (MTBF) of greater than one million hours of operation.
The DZM series handles higher currents up to 50 A, with inductance ranges of 0.10 μH to 3.0 μH and are available in the same 13 x 13 x 6.0-mm package size as the company's DXM inductors. The DZM inductor filters and smoothes AC ripple current in DC circuits utilizing a 200°C insulation system and is suitable for operating in environments with a -40°C to 155°C temperature range, including laptops, power converters, and portable electronics.
Unlike other low-profile inductors, the low-voltage, high-current DZM inductors are free from thermal aging effects of standard iron powders, and offer increased energy storage. They are also lead-free, and Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant.
The DZM inductors are priced at $0.38 in quantities of 100,000. Delivery is four to six weeks. Samples are available now.
