Palatine, Ill. High brightness, a wide viewing angle and large size translates into high visibility for a new LED panel indicator from Lumex Inc. The company touts that its jumbo LED panel indicator can be seen from a distance of 100 feet (over 30 meters) for applications that call for a bright and highly-visible indicator particularly for industrial and process control panels.
The SSI-LXH20R6 series resembles a standard LED with the exception of its large 0.79-in. (20 mm) diameter. The solid-state device provides higher reliability than an incandescent or neon lamp, which might typically be used in industrial and process control applications.
Each SSI-LXH20R6 features an LED with six chips, molded into a single housing with a hemispherical lens. The housing can snap into panels from 0.059 to 0.158-in. (1.5 to 4 mm) thick, with a hole diameter of 1.067 in. (27.1mm). The six internal LED chips are configured in a series-parallel arrangement, and can be driven from any common source of 10.5 to 12 Vdc, at a forward current of 30 mA. Power is applied through a single pair of leads emanating from the back of the indicator.
The company says virtually any color LED can be used, including red, green, and blue. For a standard unit with blue LED chips, the typical luminous intensity is 120 mcd with a forward current of 20 mA. The devices feature a viewing angle of 120°.
