San Diego, Calif. A new line of ultra-low 1 pF zener diodes from Rohm Electronics solves the problem of unacceptable levels of signal distortion in high speed input/output ports for computers, peripherals and portable consumer electronics devices.
Optimized to provide the highest levels of reliability, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for optimal signal integrity on high-speed lines, the new zener diodes deliver ±8kV or ±9kV contact protection, per the IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 specification, with the industry's lowest capacitance of 1pF. Providing ESD protection with low clamping voltage levels, all models use a diode clamp configuration for minimal capacitance. Clamping voltage is less than 14V (Vbus + 9V).
The diodes also feature a low insertion loss of virtually zero up to 3 GHz and sub-nanosecond response times.
These specifications make them suitable for high-speed differential signals, such as those found in Digital Visual Interface (DVI) and Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) applications that require very low capacitance, very tight matching, and low-capacitive coupling between signal pairs to maintain data integrity.
Available in low-profile, small form-factor EDZ, VDZ, SOD, SOT, LL, and DO packages, the diodes are also well suited for space-constrained applications such as cellular and cordless phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and PDAs.
