Chandler, AZ -- Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced the first members of its new low-power family of 12-bit Digital-to-Analog converters (DACs). The MCP492X family provides a unique combination of specifications, which includes smaller packages, high accuracy (with Differential Non-Linearity (DNL) of less than +/-0.2 LSB), and a low power consumption of 350 microamps in an MSOP package.

The MCP4921 and the MCP4922 utilize resistive string architecture, which provides low power consumption, low Differential Non-Linearity (DNL) error and small form factors. Due to their compact size and low power consumption, these new DACs provide significant advantages in space-constrained applications where minimal power usage is critical. The low DNL makes these devices ideal for set-point control applications used in a wide range of communications and hand-held battery-powered designs, including digital cameras, projectors and PDAs.
The MCP4921 (single channel) is available in an 8-pin MSOP package for $1.46 each in 1,000-unit quantities. The MCP4922 (dual channel) is available in a 14-pin TSSOP package for $1.91 each in 1,000-unit quantities. Samples and volume production are available now.
