Syfer Technology announced the industry's highest capacitance Y2/X1 compliant surge capacitors in the 1808 case size. Built using COG and X7R dielectrics, the compact 1808 SY2 range of devices is available in production volumes in capacitances ranging from 4.7pF up to an impressive 1nF.
With a rated voltage of 250V AC, Syfer's surge capacitors meet the electrical requirements of IEC60384-14:1993 & EN132400: 1994 standards, with all SY2 devices meeting the 1500V rms isolation requirements of UL60950 (formerly UL1950). The range has full TUV approval.
Syfer's 1nF capacitance value component is the first in the world to achieve this internationally recognised accreditation. Previously only available in such a high CV value in the larger 2211 case size, these compact surge capacitors will appeal particularly to designers working on a wide range of EN60950 approved telecommunications equipment as well as consumer and multimedia products combining telecom functions.
The smaller 1808 case size will save valuable board space, providing greater design flexibility, as well as contributing to cost savings. Surge capacitors play a crucial role in protecting sensitive electronic equipment such as modems, faxes and telephones, which would otherwise be susceptible to damage from voltage surges and lightning strikes.
These new product additions expand the firm's already extensive range of surge protection and safety capacitors which include 1808, 2211, 2215, 2220 case sizes in Y2/X1 and Y3/X2 ratings using both X7R and C0G dielectrics, with capacitances ranging from 4.7pF to 10nF.
