Belvidere, Ill. NDK (Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd.) offers two new series of surface-mount crystals for automotive applications. The NX5032GA and the NX8045GB crystals provide a clock signal source for CPUs in automotive power trains and safety control device applications that require high reliability. Plus, the devices offer engineers the opportunity to reduce the size and weight of their designs, while still providing high performance, said the company.
The crystals are available in a frequency range of 8 to 40 MHz. with a frequency tolerance (at 25±3°C) of ±50 ppm. They operate over a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 150°C and exhibit superior environmental characteristics including high vibration resistance and impact resistance, said the company.
Available in ceramic lead-free packages, the NX5032GA measures 5.0 x 3.2 mm with a height of 1.3 mm typical, while the NX8045GB measures 8.0 x 4.5 mm with a height of 1.8 mm typical. Drive level for the crystals is 10 μW with a standard load capacitance of 8 pF. Equivalent series resistance at 8 to 10 MHz is 220 ohms maximum and at 10 to 40 MHz is 150 ohms maximum.
Applications for these crystals include electronic control units (ECU), remote keyless entry (RKE), tire pressure monitor systems (TPMS), and airbag systems.
Pricing for the NX8045GB device, packaged on tape and reel, is approximately $0.495 each in quantities of 10,000. Delivery is 10 to 12 weeks. Qualified engineering samples may be ordered at no cost.
