Cary, N.C. Coventor Inc. has announced the ramp up of its automotive sensors design capabilities to help auto makers and suppliers meet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's mandated side impact airbags in vehicles by 2009. Coventor's automotive "Design Tool Sets" consist of MEMS design software that enable engineers to design and build complex micro devices such as accelerometers, gyroscopes and pressure sensors for automotive applications.
"Device development and system implementation in the automotive industry is nearly three years. Engineers will require Multi-Physical Domain simulations of MEMS devices with control circuits and electronics," said Mark daSilva, Coventor's applications engineering manager, in a statement. "CoventorWare provides a design for manufacturability (DFM) design flow that fits into Six-Sigma and other quality assurance programs in the auto industry."
The company said its automotive Design Tool Sets are compatible with auto industry standard tools such as Saber by Synopsys to ensure system cohesion. The tool sets support all MEMS and auto sensor systems manufacturing processes such as bulk and surface micromachining for piezoresistive or capacitive devices, wafer bonding and dissolved wafer processes for capacitive devices.
