Scottsdale, Ariz. The new FR series of 10 mm, ultra-thin DIP rotary switches from NKK Switches delivers the industry's lowest profile DIP rotary and meets the RoHS directive restricting the use of hazardous substances. In addition, it offers a lower cost solution to more expensive traditional DIP rotary switches currently available in the market.
These new DIP rotary switches feature a height dimension of 3.8 mm, which allows for close stacking of PC-boards. Available in real or complement codes, and decimal or hexadecimal configurations, the FR series can be specified in through-hole or surface-mount models. The new switches also provide highly visible legends with an arrow to indicate position for trouble-free code setting, and color-keyed actuators to identify codes.
Electrical capacity switching is rated at 100 mA at 5 Vdc, while the non-switching rating is 100 mA at 50 Vdc. The cam-activated movable contact and gold contacts ensure contact reliability and continuity. The detent mechanism gives crisp, positive action providing accurate switch setting. Actuators are fully rotational and can be operated either clockwise or counterclockwise.
The heat-resistant resin materials meet UL94V-0 and are suited to lead-free solder processing applications including vapor phase and infrared convection reflow soldering.
NKK's DIP rotary switches are priced at $1.75 each in quantities of 1,000. In comparison, currently available DIP rotaries are priced at approximately $2.75 to $3.00 in the same quantity. Delivery for the FR series switches is from stock to six weeks.
