Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. touts that it's new MIL-PRF-55342 thinfilm chip resistors are the industry's first available in standard package sizes with resistance values from 100 ohms to 160 Kohms and a failure rate of 0.01% per 1,000 hours. As a result, designers no longer have to use commercial, non-qualified devices for applications requiring this combination of performance and size, said the company.
Developed for high-reliability military applications with stringent performance requirements, Vishay ensures the established reliability of the new thinfilm resistor chips through 100% screening and extensive lot testing. The new E/H devices have been rated for an "R" failure rate level.
In addition, the all-sputtered wraparound termination of the devices ensures excellent adhesion and dimensional uniformity, according to the company, and a precise wafer-sawing process produces exact dimensions and clean, straight edges. An electroplated nickel barrier layer enables operation at temperatures up to 150°C, and a high-purity alumina substrate allows for high power ratings.
The new non-inductive E/H devices feature an absolute TCR down to ±25 ppm/°C, tolerances down to 0.1%, typical wraparound resistance of less than 0.010 ohms, and in-lot tracking of less than 5 ppm/°C. Other key characteristics include very low noise of less than -25 dB and a low voltage coefficient of ±0.5 ppm/V.
The M55342/01, in a 0502 case size, offers a resistance value range of 100 to 130 Kohms with a 0.1% tolerance, and a resistance range of 59 to 130 Kohms with tolerances of 1%, 2%, 5% or 10%. The M55342/11, packaged in an 0402 case size, offers a resistance range of 71.5 to 100 Kohms with a 0.1% tolerance, and resistance values of 59 to 71.5 Kohms with tolerances of 1%, 2%, 5% or 10%. The M55342/12, packaged in a 0603 case size, provides a resistance value range of 100 to 160 Kohms with a 0.1% tolerance, and a resistance range of 20 to 160 Kohms with tolerances of 1%, 2%, 5% or 10%.
The E/H resistor chips feature a TAMELOX resistive element with SPM (special passivation methods) and gold-over-nickel terminals. They are available in anti-static waffle pack or tape-and-reel packaging. Pricing for U.S. delivery is typically $1.00 per 1,000 pieces. Samples and production quantities are available now, with a lead time of from stock to ten weeks for large orders.
