San Jose, Calif. Lumileds claims its new flash LEDs are the industry's smallest and brightest LEDs for camera phones. Offering the light output required by high-resolution CMOS camera modules, the new Luxeon Flash LXCL-PWF1 delivers 40 lumens at 1 ampere (A), and the LXCL-PWF2 LED provides 80 lumens at 1 A, which is about 12 times brighter than conventional LEDs that produce approximately 6 to 7 lumens.
Featuring a 1.0-mm profile, these surface-mount Luxeon products are available in a 2.0 x 1.6 mm or 3.2 x 1.6 mm footprint. The Flash products are rated for 100,000 flashes at 1 A and 168 hours of DC (flashlight/torch mode) at 350 mA. The Luxeon Flash is capable of illuminating subjects at distances of 1 to 2 meters and it provides excellent color illumination resulting in consistently high quality images, according to the company.
Although designed for camera flash use, the Luxeon Flash can also function as a flashlight, allowing mobile phones to be used as safety devices.
To speed implementation, off-the-shelf driver and optics solutions have been designed and optimized for Luxeon Flash products. Flash LEDs as well as driver and optics solutions are available through Future Electronics.
