Las Vegas, Nev. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has unveiled three new LED product lines at LDI 2004, The Entertainment Technology Show. These new products include the two-watt Golden DRAGON, the 6-lead MULTILED and the Advanced Power TOPLED. These products can be used in applications including illumination, display, automotive, communications, and signal lighting industries.
OSRAM touts its new Golden DRAGON LED is the first lead-free, surface-mount LED available in the industry. Utilizing both OSRAM's proprietary aluminum indium gallium phosphide (AlInGaP) and indium gallium nitrite (InGaN) chip technologies, the new two-watt Golden Dragon offers an extremely low thermal resistance package that provides a brighter light. The low-profile package provides easy assembly with standard pick-and-place equipment. These LEDs are available in white, blue, verde green, and true green.
Finding homes in automotive lighting applications such as signal lighting and center high-mount stop lamps, the new surface-mount Golden DRAGON LED can be used in a variety of applications such as architectural and theme lighting, electronics signage, channel letters and illumination applications.
OSRAM's 6-lead MULTILED features close chip density for excellent color mixing, said the company. Use of the company's patented surface-mount technology (SMT) package allows individual control of red, green and blue (RGB) chips. This allows users to now control the output of each of the three chips to better achieve a specific and more efficient lighting architecture. This new line is suitable for LED video and RGB backlighting for LCD, micro display and color imaging applications. It can also be used for emerging advertising market and flat screen video walls. The display industry uses the device's color-mixing properties for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Featuring extremely high optical output and low thermal resistance, the Advanced Power TOPLED product line is the first high-performance, environmentally friendly (lead-free), SMT LED that can operate with a basic circuit, said the company. The LED offers a new "high brightness" and is capable of dissipating up to 500 mW of power. Available in yellow and red colors, the red Advanced Power TOPLED can deliver a typical light output of 14 lumens at 200 mA. Currently used in automotive signal lighting, the Advanced Power TOPLED is suitable for signal lighting, display lighting, task lighting and signage applications. The company says the cost-per-lumen advantage of these chips makes them an excellent choice for LED applications that require illumination uniformity.
The Golden DRAGON LEDs are priced at $3.50 in quantities of 10,000 and the 6-lead MULTILED packages are priced at $1.00 in quantities of 10,000. Now available in yellow, the Advanced Power TOPLEDs are priced at $0.45 in quantities of 10,000.
