Taiyo Yuden has added the EIA 0402 size (1.0 x 0.5 x 0.5mm) to the lineup for CFCAP®, super low distortion multilayer ceramic capacitors, joining the existing 1206, 0805, and 0603 case sizes.
CFCAP® demonstrates excellent characteristics when used for low-pass filters in PLL circuits and coupling circuits that require high stability against voltage, heat, shocks, and other external energy surges. In such delicate circuits, overly large capacitance changes in a capacitor due to external surges can impede circuit operations.
Film capacitors have been generally used because they exhibit few changes in the presence of external energy sources. Unfortunately, film capacitors do not stand up well against the high temperatures that accompany replacement of parts when a problem occurs with the board after mounting.
By contrast, Taiyo Yuden has developed a ceramic material capable of using nickel electrodes and forming a greater number of thinner multilayers. The super low distortion multilayer ceramic capacitors CFCAP® were uniquely developed to offer superior thermal resistance, generate little noise when subjected to shocks, and offer greater stability.
Furthermore, the new product is an application of multilayer technology that assures one micron (one thousandth of a millimeter) thickness for each layer of the high value capacitors, further downsizing to the CFCAP® 0402 series (1.0 x 0.5 x 0.5mm) whereas minimum size is currently 0603 (1.6 x 0.8 x 0.8mm) for film capacitors.
The new product is optimum for cell phones and other mobile devices where mounting space for parts is severely limited.
