Tucson, Ariz. Featuring an integral EMI shield as a standard feature, the new 4700 and 4800 series of surface-mount inductors from C&D Technologies are best suited for designs where minimizing electrical noise is an important concern. The 4700 and 4800 inductors, with maximum heights of 5.0 mm and 6.2 mm, respectively, also meet requirements in space-constrained applications.
These low profile, bobbin format, dual-winding devices feature a 1:1 winding ratio and can be connected in either series or parallel to give a range of inductance combinations. These devices are designed for power applications including switched mode power supplies where the secondary coil can be used as a feedback winding.
The nominal inductance values for both the 4700 and 4800 series range from 1.0 μH to 400 μH (at 10 kHz and 100 mVac). Devices in the 4700 series handle a maximum continuous current of 9.5 amps (A), while 4800 inductors have a higher rating of 12.3 A.
Power applications benefit from high levels of efficiency as a result of low maximum DC resistance values that range from 4.8 mΩ to 686 mΩ for the 4700 series and 4.9 mΩ to 503 mΩ for the 4800 series. A wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C expands the number of applications in which the devices can be used.
Available in a tape-and-reel packaging, the 4700 and 4800 series are fully compatible with high-volume automated manufacturing systems. Pricing for the inductors starts at $0.40 each in OEM quantities.
