Santa Ana, Calif. Coil Winding Specialist (CWS) says its new state-of-the-art filter inductor series offers the highest current density in the smallest package. The new Series E70340-xxx supplies an inductance range from 1 μH to 30 μH, with current ratings from 100 to 250 amps (A).
Rated at 250 A, the top of the line CWS E-70304-010 inductor delivers 8 μH inductance in a 1.7-in. x 1.75-in. x 1.25-in package size. The DC resistance is less than 0.7 milliohms. Housed in a 1.7-in. x 1.7-in. x 1.25-in. footprint, the E-70304-005 is rated at 20 μH at 150 A.
The temperature rating of the CWS E-70304-010 is -55°C to 155°C, which makes it suitable for rugged environments in commercial, industrial and military applications. The CWS E-70403-xxx series exhibits little inductance variation due to temperature changes from -55°C to 155°C.
These inductors are wound with thick helical coils using Sendust powder E-core construction that feature distributed air gaps with ceramic binders. The Sendust powder E-Cores are fired and sintered at well over 1,000°C with the ceramic binders designed to handle these extreme temperatures, said the company.
As a result, the E-70304-xxx series inductors can achieve up to 60% more energy storage than the conventional inductors using normal round wires, said the company. The Flat Helix winding used in the E-70304-xxx results in reduced DC resistance, lower copper loss, reduced size, and uniform heat dissipation. The High-Pot rating for winding to core isolation is 1000 Vdc.
In addition, the Sendust E-cores don't exhibit any thermal aging and thermal runaway issues, which allow them to operate continuously at 155°C ambient, with an internal temperature of 180°C.
The Helical coil used in CWS E-70304-010 features Kapton insulation, rated at 200°C. Helical coils are self supported with no bobbins or coil forms which is suitable for low cost, high-volume production. CWS can also gap the Sendust E-cores to meet specific customer requirements,
The inductors are priced at $7.50 in quantities of 10,000. Free samples are available for large OEMs. Delivery is from stock to four weeks.
