Lowell, Mass. M/A-COM, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, has unveiled a new product line of lower loss, higher linearity PIN diode-based voltage variable attenuators (VVAs). Touting superior insertion loss and lower distortion characteristics compared to FET devices, these VVAs are suitable for handset and infrastructure applications.
Housed in standard SOIC-8 or 3-mm square FQFP-N, and 16-lead (MLP) plastic packages, the new MA4VAT907-1061T and the MA4VAT2000-1277T devices cover the frequency bands of 800 to 1,000 MHz and 1,200 to 2,500 MHz, respectively. The attenuators are manufactured using M/A-COM's patented HMIC heterolithic, silicon-glass process, which produces highly repeatable silicon-based devices, and high Q passive components (RCLs) in a low loss, low dispersion glass circuit medium.
Requiring no additional RF components for circuit tuning, the 50-ohm VVAs deliver insertion loss values of 1.0 dB at 800 MHz and 2.2 dB at 2.5 GHz. Input IP3 over the entire attenuation range is better than +40 dBm.
