Myrtle Beach, S.C. Delivering ultra-low equivalent series resistance (ESR) of 55 milliohms, the environmentally-friendly version of AVX's OxiCap Niobium Oxide (NbO) solid electrolyte capacitors are both lead- and halogen-free. They also feature non-burn characteristics so failed devices are guaranteed not to burn up to the rated voltage. Applications include notebook and laptop computers, automotive electronics, mobile phones and PDAs.
According to Bill Millman, technical director for AVX's tantalum product division, NbO capacitors feature electrical characteristics that are the same or better than tantalum devices, providing design engineers with an alternative to tantalum for circuits requiring high capacitance/voltage (C/V) ratings and low ESR characteristics.
NOS Series OxiCaps offer reliability characteristics of 0.2 percent per 1000 hours (500,000 hours MTBF) and a temperature rating up to 125°C. The capacitance value range is 10 microfarads (μF) to 2200 μF with voltage ratings of 1.8 to 6.3 V, with a 10-V version to be released in 2005. All of AVX's new OxiCaps are available in standard EIA case sizes, and have been designed so users can move them easily to lead-free processes.
Typical pricing for the NOS OxiCap series capacitors ranges from $0.30 to $0.40 in quantities of 10,000. Delivery is four to six weeks. Samples are available immediately.
