ECOMAL has introduced a reflective SMD sensor supplied by the Vishay Sensor & IRDC Division with the designation TCND5000 which can detect objects at operating distances up to 30 mm.
The large operating range means that the device is suitable for use as an object recognition, contact or proximity sensor in a large number ot industrial, consumer and automotive applications.
The small chips are ideally suited to detect the presence of objects in applications such as mobile telephones with a speaker function. The sensor detects that the user has placed the phone close to his or her ear and immediately turns down the volume. Key features of the TCND5000 include high sensitivity, low crosstalk (reduced by the placement of an optical barrier between the emitter/ detector pair), an IR bandpass filter to suppress daylight interference, an IR emitter wavelength of 950 nm and a low aging rate. The sensor fully complies with RoHS/WEEE requirements (lead-free component soldering), and the components are fully compatible with reflow soldering up to 260°C.
