Milpitas, Calif. - Linear Technology's compact LT1942 incorporates a triple-output supply with built-in power sequencing for thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal displays (TFT-LCDs), as well as a driver for backlighting up to 12 white-LEDs. The TFT-LCD power supply, for 2- to 7-inch panels in portable applications ranging from PDAs to automotive GPS equipment, includes two DC/DC (non-isolated) boost converters with integrated Schottky diodes, and an inverter source. Supply outputs can be independently set. Additional features include 1 MHz operation for low-noise performance, soft-start, power good indication, and output disconnect.
The LED driver is a boost DC/DC converter, also independently controlled. It has a built-in dimmer for precise control of LED current (8:1 dimming range). Users can drive a single string of 6 LEDs, or two strings for a total of 12. A ballast circuit is included for precisely matching LED currents in each string. Both soft-start and open-LED protection circuitry are included.
The LT1942, available in a 4-by-4-by-0.75 mm QFN-24 package, is priced at $2.75 each in 1k quantities.
