Whilst the trend towards reducing component size continues, today's electronic circuits still require reliable protection to operate amidst the potential hazards of inrush currents and high voltage surges. TT electronics Welwyn Component has introduced the DSC Series, a double-sided version of its thick film pulse-withstanding chip (PWC) offering two parallel resistance elements in a single super pulse chip.
The resistors provide enhanced working voltage and a power rating which is laser trimmed to 0.5% tolerance. The DSC Series combines excellent power handling capabilities with good pulse withstanding performance and is available in standard chip sizes, 0805, 1206, 2010 and 2512. The pulse performance will be double that of a standard PWC and for a 2512 footprint will be at least equal to that of a 1W wirewound resistor.
The respective power ratings at 70°C are 0.125W, 0.33W, 0.75W and 1.5W with a two second overload power rating at 25°C of 0.8W, 2.1W, 4.7W and 9.4W. The larger sizes also offer double the working voltage of conventional chip resistors, the Limiting Element Voltage being 400V for DSC2010, and 500V for DSC2512.
