Data Device Corp (DDC) announces its GigExtreme Series of intelligent Gigabit Ethernet network access controllers for embedded applications. The GigExtreme ET-71000 Gigabit Ethernet Cards are designed for flight-critical military applications and harsh environment military applications.
The design features a dual-redundant architecture with autonomous fail-over, or dual-independent channels, supporting 10/100/1000Base-T or 1000Base-SX physical layer (PHY) options.
ET-71000 PMC cards include what's called a TOE (TCP/IP off-load engine). The TOE implements the full TCP/IP protocol stack, freeing host processor bandwidth.
The processor-based TOE runs firmware for its TCP/IP protocol engine, data traffic management, and redundancy management functions. High-speed data transfer is supported using standard TCP/IP sockets interfaces.
Long-Term Life Cycles
DDC claims its architecture isn't sensitive to rapidly changing commercial market forces that can result in shortened life cycles. Instead, DDC says these cards can meet multi-decade life cycle demands of typical military/aerospace programs.
Conduction cooled, thse network access cards also operate over a wide -40 to +85°C temperature range (not the full MIL temp range, however), and are available with front panel 1000Base-T, and optical 1000Base-SX, connections, or PMC rear connections for 1000Base-T and 1000Base-X SERDES (serializer/de-serializer) signals.
DDC supports these products witsoftware drivers for VxWorks, and plans to support other operating systems later this year.
