Irvine, Calif. Available in the industry's thinnest package, the new SMTC0606 programmable surface-mount RGB (red, green, blue) LED from BivarOpto, the Optoelectronics Division of Bivar Inc., is housed in a 0606 package with a new, ultra-thin 0.6 mm (0.024 in.) profile for mobile devices that require thinner packages such as cell phones, e-book readers, MP3 digital music players and personal data assistants (PDAs).
Said to provide a full-color display that can be programmed to meet specific display requirements, the new SMTC0606 device features individual addressable die for exact color mixing and matching for space-constrained applications including backlit keypads and LCDs used in handheld and mobile appliances. The new device is suitable for battery-operated devices due to its low power consumption and small form factor, enabling the use of a single or multiple, full spectrum color chip.
Measuring 0.059-in. (1.5 mm) x 0.063 in. (1.6 mm) x 0.024 in. (0.6 mm) in height, the SMTC0606 features an internal tri-chip circuit design, using three individually addressable LED die. The tri-chip RGB design is comprised of a single AlGaInP and two InGaN/SIC chip dies with peak wavelengths of 635, 520 and 465 nm, respectively. The absolute maximum rating of the forward current drive is 125 mA (Peak If). Other color combinations are available by special order.
The SMTC0606 device is encapsulated in a special epoxy blend to ensure that it withstands temperature, operation and assembly processes. In addition, the device is manufactured in compliance with WEEE and RoHS lead-free materials and processes.
The SMTC0606 can be used with BivarOpto's Flexible Light Pipes (FLP) and complete line of standard light pipe products. The series is provided on tape and reel in quantities of 4,000 or in smaller quantities when specified.
The SMTC0606 LED is priced from $1.45 each in production quantities. Delivery is from stock.
