Myrtle Beach, S.C. AVX Corp. says it has made significant improvements to its BestCap (Battery Energy Saving Technology Capacitor) series of electrochemical supercapacitors, which have resulted in the highest voltages available in the industry for low equivalent series resistance (ESR) pulse supercapacitors.
Offering superior high-power pulse characteristics due to a combination of high capacitance and ultra-low ESR, the BestCap electrochemical double-layer pulse products are now available in BZ05 and BZ06 cases, with an expanded capacitance/voltage range of 500 millifarad/3.3 V to 90 millifarad/12V. Other key specs include sub-100 milliohm ESR and DCL in the range of 5 to 40 microamps.
AVX said its patented aqueous polymer chemistry makes the BestCap a fully RoHS-compliant, environment-friendly, non-hazardous device, with superior pulse performance over alternative organic technologies. And the component's ultra-thin construction offers designers high energy per volume.
In addition, the company said the polymer technology eliminates the need for external balancing resistors, while the low ESR results in a high current handling capability. These features make the new device suitable for any portable or wireless device that requires high power availability.
The new BZ05 package targets pulse hold-up applications from server/ADSL to wireless/electromechanical automated meter readers, while the BZ06 is a special low-profile device for digital cameras and PCMCIA applications.
Pricing for the BestCap starts at $3.25 in quantities of 10,000.
