CUI has introduced the <>SR Series force sensors, designed to work in adverse environments where dust and other contaminants are a problem. The sensors are suitable for numerous applications including vending machines, variable switches, industrial robots, and just about any intermittent force-sensing requirement.
Their simple design makes them easy to integrate both mechanically and electrically. A proprietary rubber material used in these sensors is extremely elastic and conductive, which enables fine and continuous degrees of variable resistance. As force is applied to the sensors, their resistance decreases in a near logarithmic fashion from >40 MOhm at no load to <500 mohm="" at="" full="" mechanical="" load.="">500>
Designed for a nominal load of 1.6 kg, the sensors can endure up to 3.3 kg distributed over the face of the sensor. The devices feature a soft, flexible sensor cover made of butadiene acrylonitrile (NBR) built up on a stainless steel frame (SUS 304) making it rugged and durable. Dimensions range from 15 to 18 mm in length and 4 to 6 mm in height.
