Bohemia, New YorkBoard maker North Atlantic Industries (NAI) is offering a two-module multi-function 3U-sized cPCI (CompactPCI) card that fits into a single slot. Priced at about $1800, it gives you an array of options that let you configure it for various data-acquisition and control functions.
Billed as a universal card, NAI's new Model 75C1 plug-in can give you ten channels each of A/D (analog-to-digital) and D/A functions, or act as a four-channel function generator.
Depending on how you populate it, a 75C1 can also pack 16 discrete I/O channels, and 16 TTL-compatible I/O channels, as well as eleven transceiver I/O channels. It can also be equipped to process six RTD (resistance temperature detector) channels.
It does all that by means of interchangeable modules; these are priced from between about $300 and $1500 a pop, letting you configure a 75C1 in a dedicated and cost-effective manner. Each of the functions of the 75C1 is programmable at the channel level.
NAI says its library of module types and functions presently consist of over fourteen modules, but it's also growing.
Testing In The Background
The interchangeable multi-function design of the 75C1 also supports diagnostics. What's more, continuous background testing is performed on all functions and channels. This testing is totally transparent to you, and requires no programming. Background testing doesn't interfere with the normal operation of the card, either.
NAI's 75C1 is also available in both commercial temperature range and severe-environment industrial temperature range versions. Conduction cooled versions with wedgelocks are also available. Delivery is 10 to 12 weeks.
Unfortunately, there are no datasheets for the 75C1 product on NAI's Web site. Guess it's too new (oh well, at least the company has established pricing and a delivery schedule)!
