Ontario, Canada—Absopulse Electronics' RSI 500 series of low-profile inverters deliver 500 VA continuous for on-board railway applications. It's also suitable for driving AC appliances in industrial, utility, mining, marine and other harsh environments.
This microprocessor controlled, PWM design generates a 115 or 230 VAC output at 50, 60 or 400 Hz (total harmonic distortion is less than 5 percent at full load) from a nominal 110 VDC input (77-154 VDC range). Line regulation is within 0.5 percent, and load regulation is within ± 5 percent from no load to full load. Tighter regulation is also possible. Efficiency is at least 78 percent at full load.
Protection features at the input include inrush current limiting and reverse polarity protection. Output protection includes current limiting, short-circuit protection and thermal shutdown with automatic recovery in case of continuous overload or insufficient airflow. Options include an output fail alarm (Form C), adjustment for output voltage and frequency, and remote shutdown.
The RSI 500 is ruggedized and conformal coated to ensure resistance to high levels of shock and vibration. It is conduction/convection cooled and rated for operation over 0 to +50°C, with -40°C available as an option at the low end of the range. The inverters are filtered to meet EN55022 Curve B and they are designed to meet the stringent requirements of EN50155 and EN50121-3-2 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock.
The RSI 500, measuring 13.8-by-10-by-2.58 inches (LWH) and weighing 9 pounds, is priced at $602 each in quantities of one hundred.
