Santa Clara, Calif. Vishay Intertechnology says its new ultra-bright, low-current LEDs are the industry's first to meet demand for high brightness in a miniature 0603 size surface-mount package. These TLMx100x LEDs are available in red, soft orange, and yellow with a luminous intensity of up to 7.5 millicandela (mcd).
The red TLMS1000 (628 nm), orange TLMO1000 (605 nm), and yellow TLMY1000 (588 nm) feature a luminous intensity of 4 mcd, 7.5 mcd, and 7.5 mcd, respectively, with a luminous intensity ratio of less than 1.6 per packing unit. The viewing angle for these devices is an extremely wide 160°. They are rated for a maximum DC forward current of 15 mA, reverse voltage of 12 V and an electrostatic discharge (ESD) withstand voltage up to 1 KV. The standard operating temperature is -40°C to 100°C.
With dimensions of 1.6 x 0.8 x 0.6 mm, the smallest size for this type of device, the three new devices are compatible with the industry-standard 0603 chipled footprint and offer a new level of design flexibility for high-end products. Typical applications include backlight keypads, displays for mobile phones, consumer appliances, medical instruments, indicator/backlighting for audio and video equipment, office equipment, and battery-operated devices as well as flat backlights for LCDs, switches, and symbols.
The company said the 0603 LEDs are an ideal solution for small-scale, high-power products that are expected to work reliably even in extreme environments. The low-profile TLMx100x LED package consists of a leadframe base embedded in a clear epoxy. It is compatible with automatic placement equipment and is designed for either reflow soldering or a lead-free solder process.
Pricing for U.S. delivery starts at $4.00 per 100 pieces in quantities of 100,000. Samples and production quantities are available with lead times of six weeks for large orders.
