Ft. Myers, Fla. Fox Electronics has expanded its FQ series of all-quartz crystal packaging technology to include a 5.0 x 3.2-mm package size. The FQ5032, with a low profile of 0.8 mm, is suitable for a wide range of portable applications including handheld devices such as such MP3 players, PDAs, scanners and GPS devices.
The all-quartz packaging technology provides a cost reduction of up to 20% or more compared to conventional ceramic packaging, as well as eliminates the recurring problems of ceramic shortages. The new crystals yield costs savings of 15% in quantities of 10,000 to 20,000 and savings of 20% in quantities of 50,000 and higher. In addition, the FQ series offers a lighter weight and a lower profile compared to ceramic packaging.
The FQ5032 is available in frequencies from 12 MHz to 50 MHz, with a ±30 ppm tolerance at 25°C (77°F). Standard stability is ±30 ppm over the temperature range of 0°C to 70°C (32°F to 158°F). Tighter stabilities are available on special order. In addition, the crystal is available with an extended temperature range of -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F).
The RoHS-compliant device offers complete pad compatibility with existing ceramic packages, and is available in two- or four-pad configurations.
Pricing for the FQ5032 crystal with a frequency of 20 MHz is $0.25 each in quantities of 50,000. Delivery is six to eight weeks.
