Ottawa, CanadaWorking with SDR (software defined radio)? If so, take a look at this new product from data-acquisition and signal processing house Interactive Circuits and Systems (ICS). It's rolling out an FPGA-based product called the ICS SignIFy that works as a portable low-cost IF (intermediate frequency) signal analyzer. The instrument runs an embedded Intel processor and uses Windows as an operating system.
Offering up to 50-MHz of instantaneous bandwidth, the software-malleable ICS SignIFy provides long-duration record and signal analysis capability. Although based on a PC platform, with a PC's flexibility and upgradeability, the SignIFy also preserves the look-and-feel of a conventional piece of test-and-measurement equipment.
You also do your code development in a PC environment. The system supports that with a built-in hard disk drive, 10/100 Ethernet connectivity, video and audio ports, a Universal Serial Bus port, and RS-232 serial I/O.
The unit is housed in a shoebox-size enclosure and weighs around eleven pounds. It includes a transformer-coupled single 50-ohm analog-input channel that's fed through an SMA coaxial connector. It operates at a 102.4-MHz/channel sampling rate.
Through a GUI (graphical user interface), the unit helps you to gain insight into the spectrum being monitored. It does that by providing time domain, frequency domain, and waterfall displays.
Designed for applications such as SDR, SIGINT (signals intelligence), and ELINT (electronics intelligence), the ICS SignIFy is also capable of being deployed remotely from its mouse, keyboard, and monitor. A single-click recording option is also provided. It provides a snapshot display while recording.
At press time an ICS spokesman said the product was so new that pricing wasn't yet established. I will update this story when (and if) that spec becomes available.
